Tattoo Tutoring Program

I’m rolling out a new program that I’ve been noodling on for a while now. I haven’t been able to offer a full apprenticeship because this studio is a private studio and that means I can’t have an apprentice.

This program aims to fill the gap between “tattoo school” programs that have been popping up, and a full on apprenticeship.

This is intended for artists who would like to work towards becoming a tattoo artist OR improve upon the skills they’ve already gained, in a one-on-one non-standardized environment, without any obligation to fulfill a course load, pay thousands of dollars, or work hours of free labor.

I am NOT a master tattoo artist and have now only been tattooing for what is considered a short time in the tattoo world. But I still have enough knowledge to help beginners and to help self-taught artists navigate this adventure they have set onto, and act as a resource for anyone who wants to go this route.

So what’s the deal?

  • I will be charging the same rate as I do for tattoos hourly, $200!

  • To book a session you can either fill out a form below and I will email you to set it up. Or you can message me on Instagram!

    You will be able to book with me as many (or as few) hours as you’d like, on an as needed basis. The amount of sessions you book, or frequency is entirely up to you. There is no contract.

    I’ll ask that you pay ahead of time and try to make sure you have enough questions, or tutoring needs to fill the entire time you’ve booked, as any unused time will not be refunded.

  • It will depend entirely on where you are at on your journey to becoming a tattoo artist and what your personal goals and challenges are.

    If you are at a stage where you are still working on a portfolio/learning to draw designs. We will work on that.

    If you are working on tattooing fake skin and looking for some pointers on different techniques we will address thoses

    If you are hoping to move on to tattooing real bodies (!) we will be making sure you know how to do so safely and cleanly, passing your bbp certification, and then finding you a friend who is willing to let you start tattooing on them in my shop!

    These are just a few examples of where you might be at in your journey and what sessions might look like. There are many many other stages you might be in and your tutoring sessions will be tailored to fit that.

  • The $200 per hour will cover enough materials that you can work while you are here without any further costs to yourself. I will provide materials that you can use while you are in my studio. If you would like to practice outside the tutoring sessions you will need to cover the cost of those materials yourself.

  • As many as you feel you need! But I will remind you that you should only book if you are pretty sure you have enough to work on that you will use the full hour (or hours) that you booked. Any time not used will not be refunded.

  • I am going to be a lot more strict with these sessions than I would be with a tattoo appointment. If you need to reschedule I will need a minimum of 7 days notice or you will forfeit your payment for the session. Full payment will be taken when you book and will only be refunded if you cancel more than a week in advance.

    If you no-call-no-show I reserve the right to refuse future bookings with you. Please don’t waste my time or your own!!

  • Sorry! This is one situation where I have to say no. Unless you are both paying for a session separately and would like to have the sessions happen simultaneously (which I wouldn’t recommend because it’s unlikely you are both in need of the exact same tutoring session).

    Another exception to this, is if you’ve reached the stage where you’d like to tattoo a real person and your friend has volunteered to let you practice on them. In which case, yes, you may bring that friend to your session!
